MSNBC paid woman who said Chris Matthews harassed her

By The Associated Press
Just now

An MSNBC spokesman has confirmed a report saying a news channel staffer had been paid and left the job after complaining she was sexually harassed by ‘Hardball’ host Chris Matthews nearly two decades ago.

The spokesman said Sunday the woman approached CNBC executives in 1999 to report Matthews made inappropriate comments about her in front of others. CNBC is a sister company of MSNBC.

The company declined to identify the comments, other than to say they were inappropriate and never meant as propositions. The spokesman said Matthews was formally reprimanded at the time.

I have NO idea about the allegations -- and frankly don't much care. They're from 1999. If they come out, they come out. Shrug. I wasn't even speaking about the allegations.

But I absolutely find him a loathesome creature who IS sexist to the core, incredibly taken with himself, useless, a boor, and a lot of other things as well. I just didn't get the blanket support for a jerk -- BEFORE any information is out.

who is one of my least favorite people. But clearly, the harassment case was investigated. There was a disposition, which included a monetary settlement to the victim of 40,000k. We should not retry his case in the media just because we can.

You don't have to watch his show. He's not making public policy. He wasn't elected to any government position.

I bought his book on RFK for Xmas which I plan to read right after I finish Lawrenece O'Donnell's book on the 1968 election. Lawrence's book is so good and filled with juicy historical tidbits. I'm loving it.
