I was very surprised one morning in 2009 when two Forest Service officers (not park rangers) showed up at my door asking questions about someone I know. The issue concerned some threats that someone had sent to a Forest Service manager.

They already knew a lot about me, including my then-recent political activities and my Federal Firearms License.

I was able to resist the temptation to say "I don't know nothin' about no pic-a-nic basket."

I told them what they needed to know, then we joked around for a couple of minutes. They were very courteous and professional.

The support provided involves taking regulatory enforcement actions and, as appropriate, providing aviation related support to law enforcement agencies seeking criminal prosecution or conducting airborne drug interdiction. Agents also provide training to law enforcement officers in aviation smuggling techniques and FAA resources.

The LEAP is run by FAA headquarters Office of Investigations, Investigations Division, and Special Agents assigned to regional security divisions, centers and field offices.
