I suppose if a 32 is what you feel comfortable with...
But who am I to judge, I carry a 380 or 9mm most of the time. I had to retire my 45 because it wasn't reliable enough.

(17,502 posts)My brother (when he was a cop in Riverton, WY in the 1970s) once told me a story about a some clown that shot at a Wind River Reservation cop with a .25 ACP. One bullet got stuck in the notepad in officer's shirt pocket and another bounced off his badge. The rest missed. The Shoshone or Arapaho cop? He had a .357.
I would take a .32 out of the two.

(54,770 posts)The 96% who routinely walk out their door without a gun also use those things -- fortunately, most of us realize guns are quite different. Hope some day you will too.

Firearms that are owned by government agencies do start becoming evil when they are owned by private citizens.

(10,136 posts)Being prepared for an unlikely, but deadly, event is also a good thing. The more tools you have at your disposal, the better your odds are at surviving and escaping. "Be Prepared" is not just a Boy Scout thing.
Carrying self-defense tools is not about the 98% of the time you don't need them; it is about the 2% of the time that you do need them. If you are lucky enough to go through life always in the 98%, congrats to you; some folks are not that lucky. While lethal force is not always the answer to a problem, sometimes it is.

(1,164 posts)Seems as though Mr Jacques has had prior run-ins with the law. When he was caught, he was attempting to bury his weapon (at least he didn't have to dig a large hole). Then he claimed he was the victim.
He ought to have felony stupidity added to his charge sheet.

(3,201 posts)not falling far from the tree? According to one of the linked stories:
"Reneau's older brother, Garry, was jailed after he and three other men took an AK-47 rifle and robbed a gun store in Tannersville in 2005. They brutally beat the store owner with the rifle and stole 62 guns."
Seventeen, armed robbery and he tried to shoot his victim.
I suppose there will a a contingent of weeping and wailing telling us how he was misunderstood, disenfranchised, disadvantaged, alienated, at risk, how much he loved his momma and how he didn't deserve getting shot or charged as an adult.
How much you want to bet he does not get charged on the Federal gun felonies?

(1,164 posts)Magalia man shot to death after forcing way into home
A 29-year-old Magalia man with a prison record dating back to at least to 2003, was shot and killed Monday night after he allegedly forced his way into a home in the 15100 block of Jack Pine Way.
snip
The male resident of the home, who has yet to be identified, reportedly shot Shanks once in the chest with a .22-caliber handgun, according to Butte County sheriff's Sgt. Jason Hail.
What the heck was the bad guy doing out on the street in the first place?
Shanks was released from state prison in mid-November, but he reportedly failed to report to the Butte County Probation Department as required.
According to Butte County Court records and Enterprise-Record archives, Shanks was sentenced to state prison in May 2010 for felony attempting to evade a peace officer and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
That stemmed from an incident that March in which he'd crashed his car into a garage on South Park Drive in Magalia, then ran off to a friend's house where he was captured.
He was also sent to prison in 2007 for felony attempting to evade a peace officer, after leading a deputy on a high-speed chase through Paradise that ended when he crashed into a tree on Steifer Road.
In 2003 he was sent to prison on a charge of "resisting an executive officer."

But of course, we will have those that will blame the evil gun instead of the hoodlum.

(3,342 posts)It's actually a more powerful round than either, mainly due to much higher velocities.
A .32 I wouldn't trust for anything more than a gut gun, and if you're that close a good knife would probably be better.

(15,396 posts)We were from a hunting family, other than a 22 target pistol he never had a SD pistol. Somehow he ended up with a 25 auto sometime in the late 70's. I remember him shooting a coffee can out in the yard with it and sometimes it wouldn't shoot thru both sides.
My first semi-auto SD pistol was a 22. I'd much rather have a 22 than the 25 that's for sure.

(5,455 posts)Published muzzle velocities for the 22 rimfire are either from a rifle barrel or a handgun with a 6" barrel.
I did some digging last year (it took a couple of hours to find the data) and when you compare muzzle velocities of the 22 & 25 caliber guns with the very short barrels, less then 2.5", the muzzle energy is almost identical. In other words, if you take a Beretta Model 21, there is virtually no difference in effective muzzle energy between the two rounds and the 25 ACP is usually more reliable since it was specifically designed for such small guns.
DissedByBush
(3,342 posts)But if I want something small, I'd still get something better, at least .380. AFAIK, that's the biggest round where you can still have a fixed, non-locking barrel, which lends itself to inexpensive designs as small as most decent .25s and .32s around.
I'm just not going to shoot at someone with something that can be stopped by a leather jacket.

(146,345 posts)zip guns. It's low pressure profile means that you can make the zip gun from brass pipe fittings. I was challenged once to make a zip gun using only items from the local hardware store. I fired it less than half an hour later. Not accurately, mind you, but it did work.
