I started a topless gun protest because ammo-sexuals still won't shut up

I have lived in Austin for 35 years, and I have seen some weird shit here. But when my friend Lola and I decided on Saturday that enough is enough with the kind of people who take out their guns for play dates, I have to admit that it was my first time actually seeing that particular kind of people ... in person.

In person, and while I was topless.

After all those gun-rights advocates brandished their weapons at Chipotle and Target this spring, everyone knows it's legal to openly carry around your firearms in Texas. Not many folks know that it's also legal for women to go topless in the state's capital city. But I did: in the late '80s, I took part in a lot of performance art that included nudity, so I was familiar with baring my breasts in public.

Now, unlike the wave of people who advocate for their second amendment rights by waving around their guns, I don't normally go shopping without my shirt on – it's a matter of basic respect for others. But since these ammo-sexuals feel it necessary to exercise their right to take a gun out for a date, Lola and I decided to exercise our own.

I guess we now have proof that the 2A really does protect the 1A and the rest of our rights.

16. Hey Eleanors38: Do you get all "tee hee, lol, ha ha ha" when you see the word ammosexual?

.

I know I don't, but I think a few around here do.

It's a relief that I only see that kind of behavior on the Internet.

And, rarely, on a playground, though less frequently there than in years past.

When I see it on discussion boards, it smells like desperation.

regarding pro 2A Democrats; what you would expect when some "liberals" get a little twitch in the pants for some Scarlet Letter culture war. What bugs me about their latest hate term is how closely it phonetically skirts "homosexual" as if to borrow the prejudice that old term implies. I find that particularly offensive.

Yeah, it's desperate, too. Funny, they don't even comment on how much it bothers their enemies (that kind of "truth hurts, doesn't it?" is a gold standard with those into purely personal smear), I suppose because they don't want to explain why it does. They just know they can get away with a lot when bellying up to the glory hole DU has opened in the name of stigmatizing.

10. "Ammo-sexuals"

As I have said in the main discussion forum, the open carry movement is something which we should see as a positive, because groups like Open Carry Texas do an excellent job of alienating people.

On the other hand, juvenile talk like "ammo-sexuals" and "gun nuts" helps feed the idea that support for stronger gun control is based on emotion rather than reason. Let's stick to logical arguments.

Full quote, as I recall, in the comments section of an online article that used that term:

Ammosexual??? You might as well wear a big sign that reads: "I'm a bigot trapped in a junior high schooler's brain, trapped in an adult's body."

I tend to agree with that sentiment and would prefer not to see it used on a progressive board.

It says far more about the poster than about any group out there.
