An Illinois man died over the weekend after he shot himself while trying to prove to his friends that his shotgun was empty by pointing it as his head and pulling the trigger. According to the Sun-Times Media Wire, Evanston police responded at around 9:45 on Sunday night to a 911 call about a man accidentally shooting himself in the head.
Police said that the man was on the floor with a shotgun wound to his head. The shotgun was lying beside him.
Cook County Medical Examiners office identified the man as 31-year-old Eric Zyzanski.
Witnesses at the apartment reportedly told police that Zyzanski pulled out his shotgun began showing it off to a group of friends. But his friends became alarmed and told him to put it away.
Zyzanski apparently attempted to demonstrate that the firearm was not a threat by ejecting 2-3 rounds, a police statement said.
He then held the shotgun to his cheek, told his friends it was empty and pulled the trigger.
Police found that all of the witnesses gave consistent accounts of what had happened, and the evidence supported their stories. Listen to the audio report below from WBBM, broadcast Aug. 4, 2014.
Another senseless gun death. Now a 31 year old who was showing his 'gun safety skills' has his life snuffed out. REPEAL the second amendment, NO MORE GUNS!

(1,363 posts)If you are showing off your gun (WHY? There's zillions of them, and they all kill...) then you should have enough brain power to not KILL yourself. Just another example of why nobody needs guns. Nobody. And don't tell me that you need them 'for protection'. If police cannot hit their target, I'm guessing some NRA gun humper cannot either, so he maims or kills innocents....or in this case, himself.
From the New York Times: http://www.nytimes.com/2007/12/09/weekinreview/09baker.html?pagewanted=all&_r=0
New York City police statistics show that simply hitting a target, let alone hitting it in a specific spot, is a difficult challenge. In 2006, in cases where police officers intentionally fired a gun at a person, they discharged 364 bullets and hit their target 103 times, for a hit rate of 28.3 percent, according to the departments Firearms Discharge Report. The police shot and killed 13 people last year.
In 2005, officers fired 472 times in the same circumstances, hitting their mark 82 times, for a 17.4 percent hit rate. They shot and killed nine people that year.
No more guns, repeal the oh, so asinine Second Amendment NOW.

(1,363 posts)Hack, (ET AL) I am grateful for the opportunity to EDUCATE you why guns, owning guns, open carry, concealed carry ( obviously out of fear...of something) i.e. BogeyMan with Skittles, etc...People think you can just run around with guns.
Fact Sheet:
Accidental Shootings
Guns in the home increase risk:
Rather than being used for self defense, guns in the home are 22 times more likely to be involved in accidental shootings, homicides, or suicide
attempts
.
For every one time a gun in the home was used in a self-defense or legally justifiable shooting, there were 4 unintentional shootings, 7
criminal assaults or homicides,
and 11 attempted or completed suicides.
Deaths:From 2005-2010, almost 3,800 people in the U.S. died from unintentional shootings.
More than a third of the victims were under 25 years of age.
Injuries:In 2010, unintentional firearm shootings caused the deaths of 606 people.
More Guns = More Accidental Shootings: People of all age groups are significantly more
likely to die from unintentional firearm injuries when they live in states with more guns, relative to states with fewer guns.
On average, states with the highest gun ownership levels had 9 times the rate of unintentional firearms deaths compared to
states with the lowest gun ownership levels.
A federal government study of unintentional shootings found that 8% of such
shooting deaths resulted from shots fired by children under the age of six.
Youth and Accidental Shootings:
Over 1,300 victims of unintentional shootings for the period 20052010 were under 25 years of age.
For kids ages 5 to 14, the mortality rate is 14 times higher in high gun ownership states than low gun
ownership states.
For infants and toddlers, ages 0 to 4, the mortality rate is 17 times higher in high gun
ownership states than low gun ownership states.
The majority of people killed in firearm accidents are under age 24, and most of these
young people are being shot by someone else, usually someone their own age. The shooter
is typically a friend or family member, often an older brother.

NO MORE GUNS, NO MORE KILLINGS, Repeal the Second Amendment now.

(39,171 posts)a tiny percentage of gun owners using a tiny percentage of total guns are involved in accidental gun deaths. Ok, that is in line with my experience.
Do you hold the same view on alcohol? It is involved in just as much death, disease and misery. Is prohibition the answer there as well or do you only care about gun deaths?
Oh, yes, the 'apples vs. pears' bullshit the gunnutzzzz want to always come back with. Alcoholism is a disease. Owning and shooting and hugging guns is not a disease, it is an affirmation that ammosexuals are in need of security and filled with an unnatural fear of 'the Bogeyman'.
OHHH, look out! It's a kid in a hoodie! He has a gun, I'll shoot him because I need to show what a big masn I am with a firearm!!
What ar you so afraid of? I've gone 63 years without firing A SHOT. How is is possible that I am still alive?
Sorry, hack, you are out of intelligent ammo.

(39,171 posts)AWBs, magazine limits, licenses, background checks, even registration are perfectly Constitutional. The reason grabbers fail time and time again has nothing to do with the 2A and everything to do with the fact that most of America does not agree with you.
You are wrong. The Second Amendment was for a 'militia'...not you and your gun totin' ilk.
