1. I bought that gun sometime ago and I've practiced with it several times and run the scenario through my head of someone breaking in my house and I was just prepared."

2. "I keep it on top of a tall chest that she can't get to. I keep it up there unloaded. While me and the guy was staring one another down, I had time to grab my gun and load it.

3. "The three of them got into a Ford Explorer and was trying to flee the scene and their vehicle broke down on them, I guess. They just stopped and I told them to get out of the vehicle now

1. He had a response plan and he stuck to it.

2. Is it wise to keep your SD weapon unloaded at night and out of reach? I suppose at 2 years of age keeping it on top of something tall works for now, but it's a plan that needs changes at a child ages.

3. I'm not real sure giving chase to criminals is such a great idea. Sure it worked this time, but they could have just as easily used darkness and whatever resources they may have in the vehicle against you.

The crook gave him time to grab an unloaded gun and load it. Most crooks won't be that dumb. A home defense gun has to ready for quick use. There are ways to store guns so that they are instantly available to adults but not to toddlers. As children get older they must be taught.

Once the crooks leave it is over. You have accomplished your objective of survival of your family and yourself and protection of your property. You have won. Call the police and let them handle it from there. Pursuit can get you killed and can make you the agressor. You aren't acting in self-defense anymore when you chase them.

once the threat is out of the house, unless they have one of my family members they can head out.
