Lawmaker Proposes Statewide Gun Registry

An Illinois lawmaker has filed legislation to create a statewide gun registry that would require every single gun in the state to be listed, and would even affect purchases of ammunition.

The bill would create the Firearms Registration Act, and the title is a fairly good description of what it does.

Every gun owner would have to register each and every firearm they own, and people wouldn't be allowed to buy ammunition unless they had a gun registered to them that takes that ammunition, or had applied to register a firearm in that caliber.

This bill was filed by Democratic Rep. Kelly Cassidy of Chicago. She declined to speak to us about her legislation.

Mike Madigan won't allow this to come to the floor for a vote, he wants his daughter to be the next governor and he doesn't want to piss off the gun owners of Il.

Figures it would be a Chicago Pol.

From the article:

The bill is currently in the House Rules Committee. So far, it hasn't received any co-sponsors.

And, even it had garnered a co-sponser, Mike Madigan-D, the most powerful politician in IL, would have never, ever allowed it to come up for a vote, or, maybe, and I'm just specutlating, he would have allowed a vote on it to hugely embarrass the Chicago Pol. and destroy her political ambitions.

in a lot of states that people who oppose the bill of rights support.

For example, one bill in MA would have allowed warrantless search of cell phone records.

Another bill also in MA would allow the police to search gun owners homes without a warrant or probable cause.

Some bills include extra servings of stupid too.

One bill in FL required completing anger management courses before you could buy ammo.

One bill in NY required each bullet to have a unique serial number.

Personally, I'd like to apply that logic to combat drunk driving by requiring each gallon of gas to have a unique identifying feature to help track down where drunk drivers bought gas. It would be just as effective as the above.

Why can I not buy ammo for a gun I don't own. I own ammo in .40 and .45 despite not having any guns in that caliber. The reason is because when I go shooting with friends, I want to shoot their guns as well, but not go through their ammo.

If I register a gun as a .357, can I buy .38 ammo for it?
Can I buy .22 short, or .22 long for my gun chambered in .22 long rifle?

I own a Sig Pro 2022 chambered in .357 Sig....I also own conversion barrels for this pistol in .40 Short & Wimpy and 9mm. All that is necessary is to swap out the barrels and I can shoot the other calibers - same recoil spring, same magazines.

Two other of my Sigs, a P229 & a P239 - both originally chambered in .40 S&W I can similarly swap out to either of the other two calibers and I have a Marvel .22LR conversion kit for my Kimber 1911. This isn't uncommon...this bill would make such a practice illegal?!?

Why?

0% compliance for career criminals for whom guns are tool of their illegal trade.

Amazing how the continuing failure of feel-good gun laws does not hold any political consequences for their proponents.

Before Rahm, Daley had the same designated lackeys to propose the same 4 or 5 gun control laws every year when the GA was in session.

None of them ever goes anywhere because Madigan doesn't want to piss off all the downstate Dems he needs to keep his speaker's seat.

Cassidy declined to speak about "her" legislation because she probably has no idea what's actually in it.
