Atlanta (CNN) -- A man, who tried to rob a group of people waiting in line to buy the new $180 LeBron James sneakers, was shot and killed when one of the customers pulled out a gun, Atlanta police said.
The incident took place before dawn Saturday outside a shoe store in Atlanta's Little Five Points area.
The group was waiting for the store to open for the day so they could buy the LeBron X Denim on its first day of release.
Police said the man approached the group with a gun in hand and tried to rob them.

Bet he didn't see that coming.
And no, I'm not dismissing this loss of life, but better that innocent citizens either wounded or killed.

(3,731 posts)he was trying to rob them of their valuables, don't know about the sneakers.
Going up to a line of people in a CCW state with a gun with the intention of robbing them isn't exactly a smart career advancement decision.

(7,720 posts)this happened. I feel sorry for the guy who defended the group. He has to live with this the rest of his life. I also feel sorry for the dead guy's family.
I am sure there will be people posting that the guy who shot the robber should not have done so, that he should have given up his money and valuables. To that I say, "should he have given up his life and the lives of the others present?"

(18,585 posts)That takes dedication.. or something.. I just can't imagine waiting in line for shoes, much less paying that much for them.

(597 posts)even at that price its still less a %of annual income than what some in a 3rd world country pays for their shoes.
not that i would buy them. i am a 31 year old black man and have never owned a pair of Jordans Just could not get into dropping so much on shoes I know i would messup very fast. So I am the $20-30 tennis shoe dad that looks for deals at marshals and tj maxx and outlets or discount stores. Even in dress shoes the most expensive pair i have are some mid level cole hans i bet my wife paid less than $150 or so for them.
Now my gun collection lets just say im not cheap on that. LOL and i talk about $150-200 jordans but have been know to send that much ammo down range in a saturday spend at the range with friends.

I guess he though the people in line would carry cash to buy the shoes and it would be a quick big score. Too bad for all involved
