Tonight I am fixing a birthday dinner for my girlfriend. The RG is on his way to South America (Argentina, I think), and we'll be on our own. This is my friend who has the house that looks like Harry Potter's, and which is so much fun to hang around at on Halloween.
So I am fixing a big tossed salad, as my friend works a lot of hours as a designer, and doesn't get good salads very often. After that, a course of seafood soup with flatbread. Then our main course, which will be beef filet with freshly grated horseradish, served with a variety of vegetables: I have roasted Brussels sprouts in balsamic, and mixed rutabaga, potatoes, and carrots.
Dessert will be hot chocolate and Valentine's truffles, which are so pretty as they are heart-shaped, and come in a mixture of milk chocolate, dark chocolate, and white chocolate. There are even some covered in raspberry glaze, so they are kind of purple in color.
Normally I don't do sweets, but I make an exception for Valentine's Day, Christmas, and maybe one or two other holidays. My friend was actually born on Valentine's Day, so that's the significance of the hearts. My friend is very funny, so I look forward to an evening of laughing a lot.
