Hello all!
It will be Sweet Italian Sausage w/ Peppers and Onions in the 'burg tonight!
This is an easy dish, that used to be complicated, because I like my sauce thick and Bill prefers his thin.
But I finally found a good compromise. With whatever sauce we are using, I fry my portion in the pepper, onion, and sausage pan for a few minutes just before serving. It gets thick, dark red, and has a great roasted flavor.
Bill will probably make pasta for his, I usually have mine with garlic cheese bread. Yummy and easy to make.
What's for dinner where you are tonight?

(6,581 posts)Well, I didn't make anything ahead. Dog tired last night, and I fell asleep around 9:00 in the chair with the laptop on my lap. Dog woke me up at 2:30 to go out. Been up since. Not sounding promising, is it? I say let them starve.
I love to make pasta sauce with sausage and peppers, and serve with a nice white mound of parm on top.

(31,170 posts)I'll email you some so you don't have to cook tonight.
I hope that whatever is making you so tired is something that you love doing! I could never fall asleep in a chair, I always have three cats jockeying for lap position and the drama would keep me awake.

(6,581 posts)Or so he claims. Had his checkup a couple weeks ago, found nothing abnormal. So I get no sleep.
Claims he needs to go out a couple times a night. Big faker, he's just bored because its winter and he doesn't get the outside time he gets in the summer.
You can't convince me it's medically necessary to go outside when he goes out, sits on the ramp to the porch, and watches for deer for five minutes before he goes potty.
Anyone have a recipe for roast dog? How about Swiss dog ham (hundesschenken)???

(31,170 posts)cat door, but always come to me to let them out the front door instead. And NEVER all at the same time.
I don't complain too much about it though, I'd sit at the computer way more than I should if I didn't have the interruptions.

(50,130 posts)Really.
I am giving my dog 3 mg of melatonin every 8 hours plus some chamomile tea because after his series of seizures he was so so so agitated 24/7. Melatonin works just like it does for humans -- regulates sleep. And chamomile is a main ingredient in Rescue Remedy -- and I'll bet your dog would sleep through the night and so might you!

(7,252 posts)I'm a night owl but they both lay down and go to bed around 8pm. The little Tibetan Terrier happily walks into her kennel and lays down or else she sleeps in an a easy chair. The Old English sleeps on the floor somewhere, though sometimes she goes into her kennel. They only get up if there's there's some sort of activity going on until I get them up to go out and go potty when I go to bed. Then they come upstairs with me and sleep clear through till till I start to stir in the morning. I'm SO lucky with them in this way.

(22,165 posts)I've been trying to bake cookies all day. I say trying, because it's been one of those days where most things are going wrong . It's pouring rain and our roof is leaking all over a new hardwood floor we put in last month. Then all the power cut off to the kitchen! My husband said it's because the plug the garbage disposal is connected to is bad. Meanwhile, I had the food processor, crock pot, mixer, etc all plugged in. The oven of course stopped baking. I had dough chilling in the refrigerator....
On top of all of this a childhood friend of my husband's passed away suddenly. Viewings are today and tomorrow in Pgh. which is a two hour drive one way.
I'm not hungry.

(31,170 posts)There is never a good time for any of this, but all in one day is just awful. I hope today is a better day. My thoughts are with your husband and his friends family.

(24,146 posts)could you email me some, too?
today is day eight in a row at work and not only am i out of motivation to cook, i haven't had a chance to hit the grocery store and i'm pretty much out of food to cook, lol.
i've got enough on hand for a simple tomato sauce and a box of rotini, plus a loaf of good garlic bread i picked up the other day.
but tonight is my last night at work until after the new year, so i'll have plenty of time to replenish and relax. ordinarily i'd be asking my husband to shop and cook at this point, but he is also on day eight in a row at work (in a kitchen, no less) and he still has to work the rest of the week.

(31,170 posts)It's [email protected] right?
I did the "raid the pantry" meal planning thing for a few days, then Bill brought in a few items from the store and it became "raid the pantry to see what goes with misc meat"
Shopping tonight! We have to go before Friday because things seem to get marked up for the weekend around here. (insert that rolling eye smilie here)
Glad you are getting some time off. Hopefully your husband will get some down time soon too.

No sausage here but I think I have meatballs in the freezer.

(31,170 posts)Sounds delicious! Was it the steamer micro broccoli?
I've been wanting to try it, but Bill doesn't like broccoli, so it would have to reheat well, since I'd be the only one eating it...

(31,170 posts)I haven't had Little Ceasar's in years.
We had a great local joint but they folded. So it's Papa John's 'round here.
I do have leftovers that I could send you, but we're shopping tonight so I may need the keep them all to myself!

(50,130 posts)....and sliced oranges.
Crazy things are left over from my baking marathon.
I made candied orange, grapefruit, lime, lemon peels. So now I have about two cups of the simple syrup they were "stewed" in. Citrus flavored syrup. What to do with that?
And I have a bowl of peeled citrus fruits; don't want them to go to waste either.
I made a total of 22 batches of cookies to be delivered 300 miles to the household that is expecting twins. The mom is blue because she is on near-total bedrest and can't *do* her holiday stuff. So now they have enough cookies for drop-ins and teenagers and cravings too.
No baking for me tonight.
Lucinda
(31,170 posts)she's lucky to have you in her life.
I could make a meal of the cirtus. Yummm. You could make sorbet maybe?
I also have a little lust going for the cauliflower mash.
