Bacardi weekend

On the way home from work Friday evening, I stopped to buy a fifth of Bacardi light. Between that evening and about ten minutes ago, I drank the entire bottle. When my wife was about, I made proper cuba libres. When she wasn't, I drank from the bottle.

I posted in April about my problem. Since then I had drunk less, and my wife had it out with me one day and told me "I know you're drinking, just quit trying to hide it from me." She is a forgiving woman. But somehow I think that pouring a few rum & cokes in the open, then chugging from the bottle when her back is turned, is some obtuse kind of hypocrisy, and it is lying to her.

I love her deeply and she deserves better.

Thanks for listening. Your thoughts are welcome.

It is one thing to have a couple of rum and cokes on the weekend, another to be hitting straight form the bottle, particularly if you are over the age of 20. Plus it sounds like your wife, who is generally a reasonable person, is annoyed with your drinking. So that is a red flag as well.

I did a lot of stealth drinking toward the end of my alcoholism; hiding bottles so I could grab a shot when none was looking, pretending I was drinking something non-alcoholic when it was not, that kind of behavior. I did it because I was ashamed of my drinking but at the same time I needed to drink. So I did my best to hide it from people. And then after awhile all I wanted to do was be alone so I could drink in peace and without judgement. That was even sadder.

At the end of the day, you need to decide, but if you asked my opinion, I would say, yeah, you have a problem and should look into getting some sort of help before it gets worse. Good luck!
