MS Stem Cell study (big thanks to applegrove)
Yesterday applegrove posted a link and deleted it because the study was a few years old. I just want to thank applegrove for pointing that Canadian study out because it prompted me to research the procedure with led me to find THIS work that is being done not 25 miles away from me, and Ive made contact with the hospital to get an appointment. Now I dont think I qualify for this study (it seems to be for people with advanced MS and although Im still not sure what phase I am in) but it did lead me to find the group of doctors doing the study. Coincidentally, a friend (who I was introduced to via someone here at DU who read my post about MS! YEAH DUers!!!!!) put me in touch with one of her friends because my treatment thus far has been shoddy, and they recommended the same group of doctors.
THIS is why I love this site. Yeah the primary wars have gotten to me, but people here have helped me through some trying times.
This is a stem cell clinical trail being done in NYC right now. And unlike the stem cell treatment my mother got for her cancer (which nearly killed her) the side effects have so far been headaches and/or a slight fever for a few days following the injection. 7 of 10 patients in the Phase 1 trail have reported positive effects on their MS. The woman in this story is one very promising example.
So a hearty THANK YOU to applegrove!
Without further ado, here is a news piece on the study (its a local Fox affiliate, not the sham cable news network) and a link to the initial findings from this past April.
