(23,720 posts)to the treatment of women, I am just noticing the lack of attention this article has gotten.

(19,964 posts)You posted this a whole half hour after the OP was posted to WR&I? I post here all the time and rarely get more than a rec for an OP. Maybe it's DU that doesn't care nearly enough about women's issues. Using this thread as an end around to make snarky comments about other women here doesn't fly in my book.

(19,964 posts)A greatly underreported issue, to be sure. There was a time that a subject like this would draw the interest of journalists and the outrage of the public, but it seems our "incarceration nation" is perfectly content to throw millions behind bars and forget about them. Out of sight, out of mind. I would certainly like to see more women's organizations give this problem a greater profile.

(20,582 posts)I imagine this happens all over the world, though I believe I've only ever seen one actual documentary on it (which I believe was on W5), I agree with you that it needs a lot more exposure. These women (and many, many men and even very young adults) are suffering horribly with medical conditions grossly mistreated or ignored. Thank goodness these women have one another, anyway .... very hard to imagine.
