Source Claims Obama Considering Marriage Equality Endorsement Before November
ObamaVerticalWith Democrats increasingly vocal about including marriage equality in their official party platform, it's looking more likely that President Obama may "evolve" toward full acceptance of same-sex nuptials before the election.
Well, that's what an insider told Chris Johnson at the Washington Blade:
The chances that Obama will make such an announcement before the election are looking better than in previous months as the issue receives growing media attention and voters in a handful of states face ballot initiatives this year.
An informed source, who agreed to speak on condition of anonymity, said active conversations are taking place between the White House and the campaign about whether Obama should complete his evolution on marriage and that the chances of him making an announcement are about 50-50.
According to the source, the administration would like to unveil another major pro-LGBT initiative before the November election, and an endorsement of marriage equality could fit the bill. But concerns persist on how an endorsement of same-sex marriage would play in four or five battleground states.
Were talking about the Michigans, the Ohios, the Illinois of the world; the real battleground states in which voters are already conflicted and may factor this into their judgment, the source said.

(11,550 posts)As can be expected, several low-count posters are there expressing their "concern" that Obama might lose moderate voters or his base (!!!) if he openly endorses nationwide marriage equality prior to the general election.
If Obama makes this endorsement and there are electoral losses, of course the gays will be to blame! That's the way of things every even-numbered year here at DU.

(55,147 posts)Because this would undoubtedly be one of President Obama's greatest moments.
I would also add that anyone who would blame the Gay community over this, doesn't deserve to be called a Democrat to begin with & should seriously consider joining the party of hatred for all things good.
Just my two cents.

The people might claim to support it, but getting them out of their armchairs and to the polls is another matter.

(52,162 posts)One, most of the wins were several cycles ago and the landscape has changed remarkably since then. Two, we do suffer an intensity gap which does hurt. Our voters are less likely to vote overall.
The people against it might be more motivated to get out and vote

(4,150 posts)he has only his advisers, his campaign, and himself to blame. I said the same about Gore in 2000 when he ran such a shitty campaign against that imbecile, GWB. Of course, the imbecile was aided & abetted by the SCOTUS, but this race shouldn't even be close if Obama plays his cards right, IMHO.
