SourceWell, naysayers out there who said that the President would not say a peep about the discriminatory Amendment One in NC because its an election year (even though he did so in 2008 for Prop 8), youll have to eat crow. His campaign obviously did the math and decided it was the right thing to do to release a statement opposing it. (News & Observers Under the Dome):While the president does not weigh in on every single ballot measure in every state, the record is clear that the President has long opposed divisive and discriminatory efforts to deny rights and benefits to same sex couples, said Cameron French, his North Carolina campaign spokesman.
Thats what the North Carolina ballot initiative would do it would single out and discriminate against committed gay and lesbian couples and thats why the President does not support it.

(15,189 posts)Is make gay marriage protected by federal law in EVERY state. But Obama won't do it. Why? Because he still doesn't feel it's equal to hetro marriage. I will still vote for him, even though I don't like how he is going about the gay marriage issue, and Marijuana laws.

(599 posts)President Obama was in NC last week, and didn't say anything.
There is no quote from President Obama given. It sure would be nice if the people fighting amendment 1 could give an actual quote from the President, even better if they had video of President Obama saying it.
What did the White House actually say to the NC campaign? Anything? What if Cameron French exceeded his authority here...
His statement is structured like a syllogism:
major premise: the President has long opposed divisive and discriminatory efforts to deny rights and benefits to same sex couples
minor premise: Thats what the North Carolina ballot initiative would do
conclusion: therefore, "the President does not support it.

(18,421 posts)What about the states that passed amendments? If we're going to say that shouldn't we be saying that about ALL instances of discrimination against loving gay and lesbian couples?
