5 Same-Sex Couples Sue Alaska For Freedom To Marry

Alaska has become the latest same-sex marriage legal battleground across America, as five couples filed a lawsuit today demanding the freedom to marry. Of the five, four couples are suing to have the state recognize their marriages performed outside the Land of the Midnight Sun, and one is suing for the right to marry.

Last month, the Alaska Supreme Court ruled in favor of same-sex couples in a property tax case, leaving many to wonder, is marriage next?

The Associated Press reports the lawsuit “alleges that Alaska’s ban on same-sex marriage violates their rights to due process and equal protection under the U.S. Constitution.”

That is the same line of defense that has won in every same-sex marriage lawsuit, in more than a dozen rulings, since the Supreme Court ruled Section 3 of DOMA was unconstitutional last year.
