(2 posts)I don't see why religion has to conflict with sexual orientation. Devout christians/catholics argue that the bible preaches that same-gender love is a sin, and is wrong. But does the bible not also preach love and equality? If not, then the bible preaches a qualified love, restricted only to heterosexual couples. (25,183 posts)In such a society, more offspring are desirable. Yes, every new child is another mouth to feed, but that mouth comes with two arms and two legs to bring in the harvest. "Be fruitful and multiply" is the command to engage in heterosexual acts that produce future farm hands.
As a corollary to that, any expression of sexuality that does not potentially lead to procreation is a distraction of the prime directive of "be fruitful and multiply", and therefore must be discouraged at all costs. That's why religion has had conflict with sexual orientations that are not heterosexual and monogamous (at least for the little people).
