Grace: Palestinian women speak in Omaha of horrors back home

By Erin Grace

Ayah Bashir lives in a place called Gaza that sometimes is pummeled by bombs.

Electricity runs maybe for six hours a day, most water is undrinkable and travel is highly restricted. Some call it one of the world’s largest open-air prisons.

Ayah told her story Sunday night at a northwest Omaha church where she and two other Palestinian women had come to speak about what life is like under Israeli occupation. Theirs are stories we don’t often hear.

Their Omaha visit comes about a week after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was in Washington, D.C., talking about Israel’s security concerns to an important audience: Congress.

of the Master, 10710 Corby Circle. Their Omaha visit also includes a public event at 6:30 this evening at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.

Too bad they'll never be invited by our congress to speak freely, while this man receives
standing ovations with the intent to destroy Iran negotiations until they suit him and his
dumb ass hawks:

The women use words like “apartheid” to describe what it’s like being Palestinian inside Israel and the occupied territories.

They say Americans need to be aware that their tax dollars — through U.S. support to Israel — are being used in what they consider oppression.

At Presbyterian Church of the Master, they found a sympathetic audience. The Presbyterian Church USA has divested from companies that do business with Israel.

Sunday’s talk drew a number of Palestinian-Americans living in Omaha.
