Senator Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) on Friday called on the United Nations Human Rights Council to rescind its recent appointment of William Schabas as head of the UNHRCs Gaza Commission, the Washington Jewish Week reported.
According to the report, Schumer said that if Schabass appointment is not cancelled he will push for the United States to cut its financial support and participation in the council.
According to Schumers release, Schabas has a history of anti-Israel bias including previous statements condemning the state of Israel and Israeli politicians.
[A]llowing Mr. Schabas to head the UN Gaza Commission is like allowing a biased prosecutor to be the judge, Schumer said in a statement.

Chuck need not worry, the US press can be relied on to dehumanize Palestinians. Add soulless and spineless politicians who fear showing even the slightest hint of compassion for anybody but Israelis and Palestinians status as Untermenschen is safe for years to come.

sabbat hunter
(6,829 posts)but someone who has made statements condemning both Israel and Palestinian actions would be a good place to start.

(3,145 posts)Any mention of Israel's actions are met with furious indignation by the western powers while Palestinian actions are loudly and publicly condemned.
When the western powers start "talks" with the Palestinians it's with the assumption that they're demanding the moon and stars.

(39,961 posts)If he isn't suitable, then clearly there might be a better candidate. Which person should conduct the investigation?

(14,851 posts)Schabas is not only not friendly to Israel he's outright hostile.
Someone like the past Liberal party leftist justice minister of Canada and human rights lawyer - Irwin Cottler would of been a perfect choice.

Is he able to though, because of the positions he held in state? I don't know, that's why I'm asking.

Asking people, discussing leads to better understanding. I appreciate that you always provide that.

Schumers a tool.

out for Israel, they've all been wrong all these years? That would be one hell of a conspiracy.
Ask Chuck that question. I would like to hear his response.
What a fucking joke.

Israel - and its advocates - aren't upset with Schabas. Just like they weren't upset with Goldstone. No, they're upset that there's even going to be an investigation. Period. it's why Israel had vowed to not cooperate, thus guaranteeing that whatever findings the investigation makes, are going to lack information from Israel, effectively sabotaging it.
Interesting that Zionists always single out the Jews participating in these things to be attacked. I wonder why that is.

(25,699 posts)He informally withdrew a single claim made in the report - a claim that was not wrong, but was rather incompletely informed, due entirely to Israel's refusal to cooperate with the panel. One can of course only draw conclusions from evidence available, and when Israel refuses to offer its own evidence, what do you expect?
It's sort of like cutting funding to the school system, then proclaiming public education to be "dysfunctional".
There's also the matter of death threats against the man and his family. Mr. Schabas will probably get more of the same. I wonder if certain DU'ers will continue hteir support for such tactics? i guess we'll find out.
