6 Palestinians killed as Israeli forces open fire at Gaza demo

Six Palestinians were killed and 60 others injured as Israeli military forces opened fire at a demonstration by the border fence east of Gaza City and near Khan Younis on Friday, medics said.

The Gaza Ministry of Health said Shadi Hussam Dawla, 20, Ahmad al-Harbawi, 20, and Abed al-Wahidi, 20, were shot and killed east of the al-Shujaiyeh neighborhood.

Muhammad al-Raqeb, 15, and Ziad Nabil Sharaf, 20, were killed after being shot by Israeli forces near Khan Younis while Adnan Moussa Abu Elayyan, 22, was shot in the head and killed in the same area.

At least 60 other Palestinians were injured, 10 of whom are currently in in serious condition, spokesman for the Ministry of Health in Gaza Ashraf al-Qidra said.

An Israeli army spokesperson told Ma'an that 200 Palestinians approached the security fence and hurled rocks and rolled burning tires at Israeli forces.

In the northern West Bank village of Bur’in masked settlers were filmed rolling boulders and burning tires down a hill toward Palestinians.

Groups of settlers, at times accompanied by the Israeli army, threw stones at and attacked Palestinian residents, who threw stones back at them. The settlers also set fire to a number of Palestinian-owned agricultural fields.

The soldiers did nothing to stop the settler attacks, instead choosing to shoot tear gas, rubber bullets — and reportedly live ammunition — against the Palestinians defending their property.

Hundreds of Gazans gathered near the eastern border with Israel, close to the Shujai’ya neighborhood of Gaza City. The Israeli army began firing at Palestinians with live rounds as the demonstration approached the Israeli-imposed no-go buffer zone along the border fence. According to an Israeli army spokesperson, the fire was in response to Palestinians throwing stones and rolling burning tires towards army positions along the border.

At the same time, a separate demonstration was also taking place near the border fence at Khan Younis, in the southern Gaza Strip. It was also reported that hundreds of Gazans attempted to get through Erez Crossing in the northern Gaza Strip, but were prevented from reaching the checkpoint by the army.
