Israel Police arrest 6-year-old East Jerusalem boy suspected of stoning bus

Police arrested and detained a 6-year-old boy from Wadi Joz in East Jerusalem on Tuesday, without allowing his parents to meet with him. Part of the time the child was held in a squad car, and during questioning he was asked if he wanted to be a martyr.

Undercover operatives stopped their patrol car near the boy and his older brother, 12, on Tuesday at around 7:30 P.M., and arrested them both. According to police, the boys had just thrown rocks at a bus.

By law, children under 12 years of age, the age of criminal responsibility, may not be arrested or detained.

The children were taken by squad car to National Police Headquarters, where family members saw them in the vehicle in the parking lot. At 11:30 P.M. the children were taken to the Shalem police station. The 6-year-old was not released to his parents until 3:30 A.M.

The police brought the older brother to court yesterday and requested a three-day remand, but the judge ordered him released under restrictions. On Monday, the children’s two cousins, ages 13 and 15, were arrested.

Police responded that the two boys had been caught throwing stones at a bus and were “immediately removed from the area to prevent further disturbance of the peace.” Police said the parents were summoned to the police facility where the children were, and “after investigation the minor below the age of criminal responsibility was released and a report made to welfare authorizes regarding him.”

Strange that 6 year old was there without parental supervision, one wonders what kind of parents would allow that?. Was removed from a danger and released to his parents.
Children's aid would of been more appropriate to investigate these parents.

2) Stealing land from others: Yes for both countries.

3) treating minorities as second class citizens: Yes for both countries.

4) Willing to ignore International Law: Yes for both countries.

and less than many. He skipped Nutso's speech and albeit modestly, he has spoken out against Israeli "overreaction" So, yes, he's pro Israel, but he hardly stands out in his pro-Israel views.

<snip>

What the encounter demonstrated is that Sanders’s own leftwing base has no illusions about Israel, they see the country as a marauding human rights abuser. But while he faulted Israeli “overreaction” in Gaza, and has issued criticisms of Israeli conduct over the years and has bucked the Israel lobby over its opposition to Palestinian statehood initiatives at the U.N., Sanders cleaves to a very conventional mainstream view of the conflict, in which Hamas is to blame, the Palestinians leadership is not a partner, and Arab countries are bad actors (as he has said in 2009). - See more at: http://mondoweiss.net/2015/05/sanders-leftwing-economic#sthash.XCDz0WlR.dpuf

Fri May 1, 2015, 09:15 AM
May 2015
BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- Undercover Israeli operatives detained and interrogated a 7-year-old Palestinian boy and his twelve-year-old brother in occupied East Jerusalem Tuesday, only a day after two 15-year-olds from the same family were taken.

The boy and his older brother, from the Zaatari family in the occupied East Jerusalem neighborhood of Wadi al-Joz, were detained by Israeli operatives dressed as Palestinian locals while walking in the street Tuesday evening, the boys' grandfather told Ma'an.

The Zaatari family has had four children detained this week, Ihab Ahmed Zaatari, 7, and Muhammad Mahdi Zaatari 12, detained on Tuesday just one day after Alaa Magdy Zaatari and Mehdi Barakat Zaatari, both 15, were detained Monday.

An Israeli police spokesperson did not immediately return Ma'an's request for information on the incident, but told Israeli media the children were detained after throwing rocks at a bus.

http://972mag.com/the-illusion-of-change-in-the-west-bank-military-courts/106221/

In 2014 the military authorities acknowledged that the detention of children in the West Bank had become “especially sensitive” with the potential to “inflict real harm on the legitimacy of Israel’s actions in the West Bank.” However, recent developments suggest that the military authorities are handling this “sensitive” issue as a public relations problem rather than anything more substantive.

*Although the use of double interrogations is not new, the provision of written notification of one’s rights whilst in custody appears to be a recent development. The sequence of events in which this occurs, however, suggests an absence of any genuine intention to inform minors of their legal rights in such a manner so as to enable them to be effectively exercised.
