Rescued dolphin moved from SeaWorld to Panhandle for long-term care

A rescued rough-tooth dolphin has been moved from SeaWorld Orlando to a long-term facility in Panama City Beach.
The animal, now called Stan, had been found beached at Clearwater Beach. He was original rescued by the Clearwater Marine Aquarium, but transported to SeaWorld for care in June. When Stan got to Orlando, he was too weak to swim on his own, requiring SeaWorlds experts to walk alongside him in the water constantly. Eventually, he gained enough strength to swim.
Stan's issues were uncovered: He had ingested marine sponge, causing blockages, and he had signficant hearing loss, a possible factor in the beaching.
NOAA determined that the dolphin would need long-term care at Gulf World by Dolphin Discovery in Panama City Beach. He is living alongside five other rough-toothed dolphins that were also rescued and pronounced nonreleasable.
