Nobina orders 121 biofuel buses from Scania & Second LNG Refuelling Station for Sweden

In Sweden, Scania has received an order for 121 biofuel buses from Nobina, the largest Nordic passenger traffic operator for buses. Of the 121 buses for Nobina, 109 will be run on biogas and the rest on biodiesel. They will be put into service in public transport in Uppland and Skåne provinces in the summer of 2012. Scania can supply buses and trucks that run on renewable fuels: biodiesel, bioethanol and biogas, as well as on natural gas.

“The choice of main supplier in this major procurement process was based on the environmental performance of the buses and on the fact that Scania is expected to best meet our requirements for low running and maintenance costs during the vehicles’ lifecycle,” says Nobina’s Bus Fleet Manager Martin Atterhall.

Second LNG Refuelling Station for Sweden

Swedish Statoil AB, part of Statoil Fuel & Retail ASA, together with gas supplier AGA have opened the Greater Stockholm region’s first liquefied natural gas (LNG) refuelling station, in Järna. The station, the second for Sweden, is part of the ‘BiMe’ Trucks project in which Volvo Trucks is one of the participating companies. The project’s goals include 67 long-distance heavy duty trucks being powered by liquid biomethane and at least three filling stations, one each in Göteborg, Stockholm and Malmo.
‘BiMe’ is a reference to methane gas engine (MDE) technology using compressed and liquefied biomethane. The truck project is coordinated by Business Region Göteborg and will test LNG technology in road trials through to 2013.
