SAAR means seasonally adjusted annual rate

There's a lot of spilled ink on the interwebs about how housing/shelter costs (rent and owner equivalent rent) are a lagging indicator in the CPI -- reflecting old rent leases much more than new leases which have been trending down. (which has been updated for yesterday's CPI report, but the narrative about housing costs is from a month ago)

and that there were even decreases in a few cities.
