Members of Congress are receiving at the beginning of the year a sum totaling more than R$ 40 million (US$ 8 million), which should be justified by a situation that does not find support in reality.

Almost all 513 federal deputies and 27 senators in the legislature that began on the 1st, in addition to those who ended their terms on January 31st, pocketed or will pocket R$ 39,300 gross as a cost allowance to move to Brasília or to do the opposite, move back to the states of origin.

Of this total, five senators and about 280 re-elected federal deputies received or will receive two quotas of the moving budget, one for the end of the last legislature and the other for the beginning of the current one, adding an extra R$ 78.6 thousand (US$ 15,000) at the beginning of the year.

The moving allowance is even paid to federal deputies and senators who were elected by the Federal District.
