Six Years After Coup, Hondurans March In Support Of Deposed President:
In the Honduran capital of Tegucigalpa on Sunday, protestors from opposing camps held marches to commemorate the six-year anniversary of a coup which knocked former leftist president Manuel Zelaya from power in 2009.
According to El Nuevo Herald, some two thousand members of the National Popular Resistance Front (FNRP) a grassroots movement-turned-political party which formed amid the post-coup shambles confronted some five thousand people convened by the ruling conservative National Party (PN) near the presidential palace.
The march came as current president and PN member Juan Orlando Hernandez has become embroiled in a scandal. President Hernandez was involved in the embezzlement of some $300 million in public funds from the Honduran Social Security Institute. Hernandez is alleged to have accepted some $94,000 of that figure for financing his 2013 presidential campaign.
