Barack Obama
Related: About this forumOk, this is pretty exciting news. I'd call it a BFD on a personal level.
I wanted to share it here in the BOG -- A place where I know it might be appreciated. (not gonna post it in thebig forums, because it really is a little personal --)
I have been invited by the White House to listen to the President giving remarks on the economy. I got a DM via twitter thanking me for sharing #40dollars stories. I was asked to follow up with them about a WH event.
I did. As a result, I was invited! Tomorrow morning I will be on my way to the Eisenhower Executive Office Building to hear President Obama speak!
Went and got a nice haircut today, and helped the economy out by purchasing a new outfit.
I am nervous, excited and SO HAPPY! This is one of those once in a lifetime things for me!

OK, now this is just a little creepy, I just saw the President's Marine Helicopter fly overhead!
I am picking up a load of candy at Murry's, which is located just north of the runway and directly under the glide path for Andrews AFB.

(11,589 posts)So -- I have to tell you I did have the most amazing morning.
As I mentioned in the OP, they reached out to me on Twitter. I talked with a few people and another woman said she was asked to attend for her comments of the White House Facebook page.
So yes, the White house DOES read what people say.
But it got a little more amazing when I got there. You see, I thought I was going to be seated in the audience to listen to PResident Obama. When I got to the check in sheet, I was asked to go see the communications person. It was at this point when I had that sinking feeling that something was about to go awry.
Well, I was wrong. She informed me that I was among those selected to stand behind the President as he gave his remarks!!! We were asked to wait in the green room as they decided who would stand where, etc... and then we were told that President Obama would be coming in to greet us all personally along with ---
Vice President Biden!!!
This blew me away!
How I was chosen to stand on the podium beyond me. I think there were maybe 18-20 of us. I was asked to stand in the front row. I was in the green sweater second in from the right (I am the "plump" lady... LOL)
A little while later he walked in and said, "Hey everyone, what's Going on?" It was pretty funny!
He then proceeded to greet us all as we introduced ourselves and shake our hands. President Obama didn't quite get my name at first, and asked me to repeat it, I said Raine. He said that I had a beautiful name. (yeah, he really said that!!) It was followed by a greeting from Mr. Biden -- who made me laugh when he said to me, "it's hard to follow that guy, but it's nice to meet you." Joe Biden is REALLy a funny guy.
Both had great handshakes and a wonderful real and honest energy about them. A chance of a lifetime. *sigh*
Unbelievable. Amazing. President Obama is indeed the real deal. Here is a link to the C-Span video!

#40dollars means people can still drive to work for the week.
That was it. Why I was chosen over the thousands upon thousands of people, I will never know. These 2 things in particular were of deep concern for my sisters. I literally wrote this with them in mind.
