On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rank the organizational strength (financial resources, field/GOTV strength, leadership etc.) of the Democratic Party going into the 2012 elections? Trying to get a feel of how people see the party, consider your local, county, and state parties along with the national party, but rate overall.

(3,991 posts)On this very forum, I saw threads advocating that Dems interfere in the Republican primaries in MI on behalf of Santorum, basically guaranteeing that the Republican party would after that merge behind Romney in a unified fashion, which is what we have been seeing recently. We should have had a centralized party voice that denounced these unethical tactics, but its not there. The central moral voice of our party is far too silent.
But our party is on the right course. I believe God loves women, that's why he created them. And God loves gays, that's why he created them. The Republican party is trying to create a "war on religion" narrative, but it fails to address the real religion of the people, which embraces the rights of ALL people, women, gays, minorities and disabled, as created by God. It is against our mighty God which Limbaugh has positioned himself and thus crashed and burned, as well as Breitbart. So our noble party is on the right course, staying true to the timeless mathematics of true ethics.
But the courage of centralized command still remains sadly lacking from our party.

(5,044 posts)Basically I think our party sucks. Demoralized. I'm overall happy with the President, but find great disappointment in our structural achievements.
Where is our fight against Citizens United? I am left to believe that our party is just fine with the purchasing of elections. If that is the case, then I am done with even attempting to assist. I will always do my part in filling out my ballot, but I will draw the line right there and I think many people would agree with that.
Correcting these issue would bring the thunder back and our organizing would be galvanized. But correcting and campaigning on these issues are two very different things.

(22 posts)If your enemy attacks you with guns and you are bound to a code of fairness that the only honorable way to wage war is with fists, the result is that, if you do not arm yourself, you will remain true to your beliefs and be left lying on the battlefield riddled with holes. And your gun-toting enemies will have wrested control of the battlefield (and, very likely, won the war).
Apologies if the martial metaphors appear hyperbolic. Except that I live in Michigan and I see that this is an actual revolution in which we are engaged. I see our Corporazi governor and his authoritarian congress nullifying elections nullifying cities and their elected officials and appreciate this ALEC-driven war against our democracy is not hyperbole. It is real. It is revolution.
It is war. And the Corporazi-controlled SCOTUS has declared the rules for this engagement. We can certainly not expect to come up with a constitutional amendment to remedy that ruling by the fall. Imagine trying to get anything like that through the tea-infused Boehner House. (We'll forget for the moment that constitutional amendments also must be ratified by the states, right?)
So. What would you have us do? Lose, on principle? Or take up arms, as best we can?
We must win this war before we can fix the 30 years of damage inflicted on us by this rightward Corporazi revolution and their elected wrecking crew. (To think that people feel warm/fuzzy feelings about the phrase "Reagan Revolution" is something I cannot accept, since this anti-democracy movement of transferring all wealth to the greedy and entitled is the greatest threat to our democracy since the last Civil War.)

(1,115 posts)If we could get a party like Pennsylvania's, Michigan's, Iowa's or another state that has a strong Dem presence Florida would go blue for a long time. It would be game over. We need a Dem legislature and governor. There is no good reason we are so out numbered in Tallahassee.
Someone please help get our state party in order!!

(5,609 posts)We DO need a massive infusion of national big-time help in order to strengthen and grow the Florida Dem party. We at the grass roots level can't do it all, and our state Dem leaders are too demoralized and fearful to mix it up with these powerful FL Repubs.

(956 posts)Heads in the sand hoping to avoid a beatdown.... a long way from Barack's victory in 2008... Not sure what changed so quickly....
Obama was our hope for change, we held him high and without wisdom. He turned out to be a true politician. A Democrat to be sure, but a politician. Our hopes have been dashed.
But we still breathe therefore we still hope. His next term with a congress filled with Democrats can bring about the change we ache for.
Mr. Obama is now seen as just a man, not some fictional god, but a man working hard to make a difference in our lives. We can now see him as he really is and appreciate that honesty. He can now be my hero, not my god.

(1 post)It is simply sad that only Biden and Obama for the past three years have tooted their own horns, while the mules set on their hands. They wondered why they lost so many seats in 2008, well if they had worked just as hard broadcasting their mouths as they did when Clinton was in power, we would not be in this predicament NOW. IT TAKES RACHEL, ED, AL, & LAWRENCE TO DO THE RIGHT THING! Y'all need to do better. patriot:
