Youtube HTML5 player seems to fix video buffering for me.
I just wanted to post my results with the experimental Youtube HTML5 player. I've had a problem for about 4-6 months where virtually every YT video would pause after about 30 seconds and then take up to 4 minutes to resume playback. It was across all browsers. Recently, I was reading something on Reddit and was directed to a page from YT asking if I wanted to use the new HTML5 player. I said yes (thinking, why not?). For the past week or two I have not had any buffering problems with YT videos. I only watch a few videos a day at most but because you can go back to the default player, I thought I would post if others wanted to give it a try if they have been having YT problems.
Some on the web don't particularly like the player because they find it difficult to switch between quality options (number of pixels) but I have experienced that problem. So take my experience with a grain of salt.

(11,065 posts)And for months and months. Did your experience also include pixelating or the audio not matching the video by several seconds? And it doesn't matter if the video is less than a minute long or over an hour long?
I'm going to try this.
Thanks for the info! This had been driving me insane for months and months.

(2,805 posts)I can't say if YT was the one that had an audio synch problem on a video or two (it was not a recurring problem for me but I did have one or two).
I was having every video pause after about 30 seconds on YT. Did not matter if it was the "viral" video of the week or one that had been sitting in their archives for years. I kept thinking that maybe I was watching unpopular videos that had to be dredged up from the depths of their server.
I must say that I did have a pause on the Grumpy Cat Friskies' Christmas video after I posted this but not the same "matter of fact" pause after 30 seconds on EVERY YT video as before (more like a normal buffering pause that took a few seconds). I have a decent internet connection and fairly good processor and video card so it is not hardware related but something about YT.
I would go ahead and give it a try. YT is apparently converting their whole archive to the HTML5 format so it is inevitable that you will eventually be using it. You can still switch back and any videos not in that format will automatically be played in Flash player.
I might be imaging the improvement but I don't think so. It had been very annoying when a 1 minute video I didn't really care about watching would pause half way through and take way too long to load.
Please let me know if you see any improvement, I'm curious.
