If you can afford it, consider a UPS! They have built-in surge protection and many models will also protect your equipment from any surges that come through the phone or cable connection. (Also a common reason for fried electronics.)

Read the reviews and remember that EVERY electronic component has defective ones shipped. People with defective ones usually are angry and give one egg reviews. I can't blame them.

check the joule rating on any unit you're looking at. The higher the number, the stronger the protection. The Belkin unit suggested by others is an excellent bargain... almost 4000 joules for $27.00 before shipping.

Most stores carry the Belkin brand, so you may want to shop locally, just keep the joule rating in mind, and use the $27.00 price point (plus shipping) as reference.

Also keep in mind that the recommended lifespan of a good, reliable surge protector is 3-5 years. Good Luck..!!
