Keypad on my laptop is not working. When I woke up this morning there
was a virtual keypad on my screen. I got rid of that. Managed to log on and once in any program cannot use the keys. Thanks.

Windows has its own virtual keyboard, which you might have accidentally activated. See here for how to disable it:

Otherwise, for troubleshooting, can you enter text using your laptop keyboard in any Windows prompt screens - i.e. without opening up any programs?
If this doesn't give you any clues, try starting up in Safe Mode (restart the computer and repeatedly tap F8 while it's booting up) and see whether the problem still occurs and whether your laptop keyboard works at all in any programs.
