Internet Explorer: Hpiz402 Installing .. anyone have experience with this?
It won't cancel. I had to shut IE down completely. Web search is not yielding anything useful. Microsoft hasn't written about this, so that leads me to believe that it is not related to IE.
The last time I had IE open was when I did Windows Updates. It finished. This must be a bug?
Is there any online virus scanner? That isn't a hoax?
eta: I found something that suggests this is related to HP Image Zone, which I do have. Still any information will be helpful.

(14,804 posts)You could try uninstalling Image Zone, and see if that solves the problem. Of course, if that solves the problem, it probably wasn't really a problem in the first place.
Yeah, HPIZ402 sounds a lot like Hewlett Packard Image Zone version 4.02, and it probably is, but I can't tell you with absolute certainty that it is.
Why Syzygy
(18,928 posts)I am going to try that when I get a chance today. I have 4.02 so updating it doesn't seem to be an option.

(47,675 posts)Install Firefox and use that to do the searching. I'd still run MalwareBytes before doing anything. It sounds like a piggy-back virus. If you're on Vista, don't trust Windows Update. It works fine on Win7, but really screws up Vista boxes.
Why Syzygy
(18,928 posts)I use Firefox and I finally did find some search results. I looked first at the usual forums and there wasn't much there.
And I've got XP Home

(3,555 posts)A quick Google reveals it's now HP PhotoSmart Essentials or something similar, which may or may not be compatible with Vista/7, dunno which flavor of WinDOZE you're running.
A good free alternative (from what I've read on the innernetz) is Picasa.
