If you knew that the GOP was going to win, and you could choose which rider in the clown car would get to drive, who would it be?
My answer right now is Jeb! (exclamation not for emphasis). He doesn't have a shot because, as I see it, he's the only one who isn't completely insane. But that's also why he'd be my pick.
Well, Kasich isn't totally crazy, but tbh I just don't like him.

(231 posts)But I suppose at least Jeb(!) and Kasich are the least insane of the bunch. ("Vote for Jeb! He's Less Insane Than Trump!"

I'd pick the guy who was ambassador to China...

(135,425 posts)He's so sane he's almost a Democrat.
AND...he'd be the first Mormon, if he won!

(62,482 posts)Decent republicans are few and far between these days.
So for all his faults i would probably go with my old representative, Jim Leach.
Yes he of Graham, Leach, Bliley act. But he has many redeeming qualities.
So a locked conventions casts its eyes toward Jim Leach.

(7,535 posts)crash will be bad enough to brand them as pariahs for the next 100 years.
Maybe then people will wake up.
If a Republican gets in we are going down hard no matter who it is.

(33 posts)My lady prefers Trump. She wants him to ruin the country so bad no one will ever vote GOP again. IMHO both parties are in a nose dive. Flash forward 30 years and it's like, Tea Party vs. Progressive Party.

(45,806 posts)Yea, I know he's nuts, but I think a lot of what he's saying now is show aimed directly to the audience he wants to reach, and it seems to be working. The man is NOT stupid, by any stretch. Remember, he WAS a Dem for a very long time, and I doubt he's changed much. When I look at all of them, I see 1 intelligent but politically stupid one (Carson), 2 evangelical war mongering liars (Cruz & Rubio) 1 smooth talking sneaky liar (Kasich) I real dumb ass who hired ALL of his bros advisers but swears he's his own man (Jeb) 1 super egotist but not really an extremist (Trump)
After carefully examining each one, I decided the Trumpster is the best of 6 very bad.

(111,456 posts)He's saner than Jebbie, he just believes a lot of really stupid shit he's been told. He's not a religious nut (Jebbie pretends to be) and would likely be the least of all possible evils in that party if they cheated him in to office.

(50,986 posts)I liken the current GOP presidential aspirants to a giant mound of dog food. Unappetizing, start to finish, through and through.
My pick is none of the above.

(14,498 posts)Rubio is an empty suit. Cruz won't be able to break out of the straight jacket, far right world view. They'd be easiest to beat.
Trump is a wild-card. He could be trouble. It's difficult to predict if...... stylistically if not ideologically.... he can appeal to and draw out sufficient % of the general electorate to remain competitive. But it's possible that he COULD.
If I were the GOP high command, I'd try to talk Romney and/or Ryan into running.
They're both smarter and slicker than anyone in the current crew and either of them would be more difficult for DEMs to defeat. (And Romney, like Trump has unlimited $$)

(3 posts)I think after listening to Kasich in a clip on MSNBC the other night, and the fact he states he's trying to run a "clean" campaign, he would have my vote if I wasn't a Democrat and voting for Bernie.
