More Polish immigrants are welcome to come to Britain, Boris Johnson says

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/more-polish-immigrants-are-welcome-to-come-to-britain-boris-johnson-says-a7224956.html

Boris Johnson has invited Polish people to come to Britain as immigrants, dismissing claims that the UK is lurching towards “xenophobia”.

After a visit to a British Council language school in Poland Mr Johnson said he was impressed with the students and welcomed them to come to the UK.

“We look forward to welcoming them to Britain in a few years’ time,” he told reporters at a press conference, according to The Guardian newspaper.

During the visit Mr Johnson sought to reassure the Polish government that there was “no room for xenophobia” in Britain’s capital city.

There isn't much xenophobia in London, that's true, that's why they defied you and your horrible Brexit. And why they will continue to do so. I am sure that most Londoners, who voted for you for Mayor, are now regretting voting for you.

But you and your lot have certainly whipped up xenophobia in many parts of the country. A Polish migrant in Essex was murdered; others have been attacked. And now this awful case of a pregnant woman being beaten up and losing her baby. Hate-crimes higher than in a very long time; ethnic and racial hate stirred up; not to mention the divisions between age-groups, and between different parts of the country.

Not to mention that your and your lot's lies have persuaded half our voters to withdraw from our long-term trading organization WITHOUT ANY PLAN; and now we're in a mess already, and Brexit hasn't actually gone through yet. Basically you and your lot and the tabloid media have persuaded us to impose economic sanctions on our own country!

And you know, Boris, it's obvious that you didn't even believe in it. Gove might have really been thick enough to believe all this, but you risked your country's future for your personal ambition. In the 'good old days' that you'd like to go back to, people were sent to the Tower for much less than that.

An attack on two Polish men hours after a remembrance march for one of their compatriots who was killed in the same town is being investigated as a potential hate crime.

One of the men suffered a cut to his head and the other had his nose broken in an assault by a group of four of five men at about 3.30am in Harlow, Essex, on Sunday. Both men were treated at Princess Alexandra hospital before being discharged.

The attack came a week after Arkadiusz Jóźwik, 40, was knocked unconscious outside a row of takeaway shops on The Stow in Harlow. Jóźwik, whose brother said the assault began after the factory worker was heard speaking Polish, died later in hospital.

The killing, which is also being investigated as a possible hate crime, raised fears about an upsurge in hate crime targeted at eastern Europeans following Britain’s EU referendum. As a result, the Polish community held a “march of silence” through the town on Saturday.
