Mini-grants available for service projects

FAIRMONT — Volunteer West Virginia is now accepting applications for Governor's Day to Serve Mini-Grants. Non-profit organizations that wish to host a Day to Serve service project may be eligible for up to $500.
Day to Serve began in 2012 as a collaboration among the governors of West Virginia, Virginia and Maryland, and the mayor of Washington, D.C. They invite all citizens, faith groups, businesses and community organizations to join the cause. In 2013 more than 5,500 West Virginians served more than 17,000 volunteer 3hours for Day to Serve.
More than 570 service projects took place over a two-week period. Qualified mini-grant service projects must be held during the Day to Serve time period, Sept. 11-28, and must include an element of volunteer recruitment as well as outreach and community awareness.
Grant applications will be reviewed to determine if a project is eligible and approved for funding. Non-profit organizations can apply on the Volunteer West Virginia web site, www.volunteerwv.org. Contact Waylon Bryant with any questions 304-558-0111 or [email protected].
