Feds enter investigation into Lt. Gov. Dewhurst campaign embezzlement case
Federal authorities have entered the investigation into allegations that Lt. Gov. David Dewhursts former campaign manager, already facing a state probe into theft allegations from the No. 2 Texas officials state political account, also stole at least $1 million from his unsuccssful U.S. Senate campaign.
Thats in addition to the earlier accusation in public filings by the Dewhurst campaign that Barfield may have improperly pocketed as much as $1.3 million from Dewhursts state campaign account.
New filings with the Federal Election Commission made public Thursday allege that Kenneth Buddy Barfield, a longtime political confidante of Dewhurst, knowingly supplied false information to the Dewhurst campaign, which the caused the Dewhurst campaign to report a number of inaccurate transactions, Dewhursts lawyers stated in the filings.
The filings also reveal that Dewhursts federal campaign owes money to his state campaign account for consulting services, an apparent violation of federal election laws.
