Lamar Smith CAN be defeated - if YOU help

Lamar Smith is one of the most dangerous Republicans in Washington. He has also been regarded as an easy win for the GOP. So much so that the Texas Dems and DNC won't even try. That has changed and he can be defeated.

I met Tom Wakely back in the spring. Out of frustration with Smith's medieval thinking I went looking for a candidate hoping that this time the Dems would actually TRY. I found Tom Wakely and on the front page of his website it read "Climate Change is the Single biggest national security threat we face." I had found my candidate. I met him at Bernie meetup in Kerrville and he talked me out my ten year hiatus from electoral activism. I haven't been this excited about a candidate since Paul Wellstone.

Over the last few months he has built an incredible campaign. Made up of young activists he has successfully reached out to and energized every constituency that Smith ignores. (which means anybody who is not an oil & gas lobbyist).

If you are paying attention you know that Texas is turning blue from the south to the north. TX-21 is the next in line to turn. It can be done. Furthermore, there is a wildcard in the mix - Trump. Nobody likes him. You can tell by driving around the district. For the most part, yards are empty of campaign signs where I would expect to see "Trump" everywhere I look. There is a very good chance that republicans will stay home this year and an energized Democratic campaign can create an upset.

Today I got an email from the campaign manager titled "perspective." In it is said;

"When certain people told us that we couldn't win, they didn't just mean that. They meant we wouldn't receive national endorsements. They meant that elected officials would treat us like the plague. They meant that we wouldn't have even 100 donors, let alone over 1000. They meant we wouldn't have an office space. They meant we wouldn't have yard signs, never mind enough supporters to justify purchasing them. They meant we wouldn't have a national phone banking system, let alone have the ability to even make one call. They meant we'd be unrecognizable. They meant that we wouldn't even come close to where we are right now. They were wrong."

How wrong? Tom has won national endorsements from the United Farm Workers, Alliance for Retired Americans, and Climate Hawks Vote. In fact, as it stands right now, we're the only campaign in Texas endorsed by the national UFW. We have a national dialing system and our facebook and twitter support clearly outstrip Smith.

I've only been helping around the edges. The team Tom has built is incredible. They are energized, creative and forward-thinking.

TX-21 is the place to focus your support. PLEASE join Tom and throw medieval Smith on the trash heap of history.

You may have a point. I've noted a surpring dearth of Trump yard signs in central Texas myself. I have a back-road route I take that runs by way of Daalas to Cleburne to Mc Gregor to Valley Mills to look at the countryside and duck backed-up traffic on I-35.

In previous election years the McCain and then the Romney signs were plentiful. This time around, the Trump--Pence are surprisingly few and far between.

Maybe folks are getting tired of their decades-long love affair with Club Pachyderm? We can hope.
