Amarillo gynecologist files for rehearing after board moves to revoke license

Although the Texas Medical Board moved to revoke his license, an Amarillo doctor can continue to practice unless the board rejects his request for a rehearing.

Last month, the board voted to revoke the license of Dr. Douglas Shelton, a gynecologist accused of medical negligence and multiple sexual relationships with patients.

On July 1, Shelton filed for a rehearing, which will allow him to continue practicing if a majority of the board opts for a second hearing in the State Office of Administrative Hearings, medical board spokesman Jarrett Schneider said by email.

If the board denies a rehearing, Shelton’s license will immediately be revoked, and he can then appeal in district court, Schneider said.
