First Baptist Dallas Pastor Robert Jeffress gets an F in history

First Baptist Dallas Pastor Robert Jeffress is a busy fellow with a crowded schedule, but maybe he can carve out some quiet time for summer reading. He needs a remedial lesson in Holocaust history.

Jeffress, in addition to leading an 12,000-member church, anchoring radio and television programs, and appearing as a frequent Fox news contributor, is also Dallas’ mightiest titan of bombastic conservatism. As used as we are to his histrionic brand of gay-baiting, Obama-bashing, Islamophobic, end-times-a’-comin’ politico-theological extremism, he always seems to have a fresh surprise.

His startling topic of the moment is the persecution of Christians. We are not talking here about the martyrs of antiquity, or about religious oppression on the other side of the planet, but regular-Joe mainstream Americans.

Jeffress maintains that we (as a baptized Methodist, I count myself) “are being marginalized and treated as objects of contempt” just like European Jews in the early years of Nazi oppression.

I have an insurance policy from a company that provides insurance to Lutherans, and I technically qualify. I better not let the oppressors, whoever they are, find out about that, or I'll be hauled away to one of those FEMA camps and have electrodes inserted in my brain.
