Texas windstorm reform passes House

AUSTIN — A bill to make major changes to the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association passed the Texas House and heads to the Texas Senate for approval.

Senate Bill 900, from state Sen. Juan "Chuy" Hinojosa, D-McAllen, changed the financing structure and the association board makeup in a way that gives more coastal say.

The association is the payer of last resort for major storms such as hurricanes.

The bill got a vote of 97 to 44. The bill will need Senate approval before heading to the governor's office for a signature. To resolve differences, the two chambers may put together a conference committee.
