ARLINGTON -- U.S. Sen. John Cornyn joined local officials Friday morning on a tour of a storm-damaged Arlington church and said he hopes that politics doesn't enter the Obama administration's decision on whether to approve the state's eventual application for federal disaster assistance.
"I hope that was an exception," he said, referring to the administration's reluctance last year to grant emergency funding for areas devastated by wildfires in April, May and September. "This is not a partisan issue."
Gov. Rick Perry, members of the Texas congressional delegation and others criticized the administration last year when it didn't immediately declare a major disaster for Texas but did so for Alabama and other states. Federal officials ultimately did issue the declarations.

"We're here to make sure there is a seamless process starting here with the mayor and the judge and the state level with the governor and then in Washington," he said."

(8,153 posts)In keeping with Texas' spirit of ensuring that women are fully informed before undergoing an elective procedure, the federal government will require all victims gain a better understanding of meteorology before they can receive the funds.

Every Republican and lost Democrats should make it a mandatory viewing before receiving funds.
And teaching them what they continue to vote against.

(36,974 posts)I'm not going to go look for an 'old' article right now BUT back when Perry was complaining about not get 'extra disaster funds' during the wild fires it was because Texas was already receiving Federal Funds from other federal agencies other than the one that he submitted new requests to.
I remember it clear as day, and there should be an article on the net somewhere about it.
I remember for sure that there were articles or TV folks calling Perry out on it for not be truthful regarding the issue.
So, now this new story comes out making it sound like Obama delayed giving Perry money back then and that is just not true.
He diverted 33 million from Federal Rural VFD funds.
He also diverted 25 million of Rita FEMA Federal funds for Galveston Island for repairs.
Put it all in the GAO Rick Perry BH so some corps millionaire could be subsidized.

Federal Emergency Management Administration spokeswoman Rachel Racusen says the administration has been working for months to aid Texas.
This administration, through FEMA, has been working closely with the state throughout the duration of these fires, and we are supporting the firefighting efforts, she said. In fact, we have already approved 25 fire management assistance grants in recent to help cover expenses for these emergency response efforts, including 19 grants in April.
Racusen said the administration believes at this time that the ongoing federal assistance to Texas is sufficient.
Based on the information the state provided to FEMA through this process, it was determined that there was not a need for additional support at this time as the federal assistance is already being provided to Texas for response activities in the form of the Fire Management Assistance Grants, she said.
Current federal aid covers 75 percent of Texass costs for emergency response work, such as evacuations, equipment, field camps and meals for firefighters, police barricading and traffic control. The agencys regional office in Denton continues to monitor the situation and work closely with Texas Forest Service and Texas Division of Emergency Management, FEMA officials say. In addition, firefighting teams from more than 30 states have provided state-to-state support for firefighting efforts in Texas.
But FEMAs response does not satisfy the Texas Republican officials.
