Gohmert Talks To Congress, Takes Aim At Visa Plan
The release of a Mexican national and his wife by federal authorities last week despite being wanted in his home country continues to draw fire from politicians asking for investigations into the incident.
U.S. Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-Tyler, spoke to the House of Representatives on Wednesday about the release of Hector Hernandez Javier Villarreal and his wife, telling his colleagues in Congress he was outraged that a wanted criminal was now loose instead of in jail.
It's critically important to address this now. We need to be following along to make sure the federal agencies are doing their due diligence to ensure the safety of our citizens and be aware of who is entering our country, he said in a phone interview shortly after his speech.
Villarreal, 41, the former secretary executive of the Tax Administration Service of Coahuila, Mexico, and his 28-year-old wife, Maria Teresita Botello, were released last week from the Dallas headquarters of Immigration Customs Enforcement.
