http://www.pennlive.com/midstate/index.ssf/2015/03/citing_gov_wolfs_opposition_to.html#incart_riverThis guy and Corbett's Dept of "Education" tried to rush the conversion of the York City School District into all charter schools through a County judge, with only a few days remaining in Corbett's term.
A year ago, the Corbettites had threatened to turn every public school in this School District into a charter school if the teachers union did not agree to give-backs in pay and benefits. The teachers did approve givebacks, but the Corbettites tried to force through the conversion anyway.
All of the York schools were supposed to be run by a Florida-based company, whose owners are closely allied with Jeb Bush.
The appointed receiver for the district resigned because Gov. Wolf said he would oppose the conversion. Without the Dept. of Education continuing to fight on his side, the Receiver apparently realized he wouldn't win in court.
The whole idea is supposedly "school choice." What kind of choice is there if every school in your district is run following the vision of Jeb Bush?

(6,819 posts)People deserve the right of choosing public schools, if they wish.
Gov. Wolf is proposing to reform the process of funding charter schools, some of which game the system to receive absurd amounts of tax dollars per student for poor results. Some of the worst offenders have been the for-profit cybercharters, which receive as much money per student as a bricks and mortar school.

I also have numerous problems w/ cybercharters. Animosity started when Santorum sued PA to pay for his kids' education in VA.
Add new studies that physical, non-virtual books and actually writing things down as opposed to typing on a screen enhance learning.
