Introducing the Black-and-White Cookie Ice-Cream Sandwich, a Truly New York Concoction

http://www.grubstreet.com/2015/06/black-and-white-cookie-ice-cream-sandwich.html?_ga=1.42320806.286447546.1411751012

-snip-
Is there a more iconic New York cookie than the black-and-white? And, given the fact that the ice-cream sandwich was invented circa 1899 on our own gritty streets by a pushcart vendor, is there a more quintessentially New York frozen-dairy delivery system? No and no.

Brilliant!

i've been longing for a black and white cookie. there was a place in the mall on queens blvd who had corinna donuts. aside from the best donuts i ever had they had great black and white cookies. wonder if they're still there.

JC Penney's name is on the front but that store is at the back, no longer on Queens Blvd. By the back I mean the additional city block that the was expanded to.

to another name on one corner and abraham & strauss on the other. i used to take the express bus to work and the last stop was at the mall. i could see the clothes in the window.

is the round macy's still there?

i also used to shop on austin st -- had some nice small stores there.

can you believe i've never been back to NY. my late husband used to go on business trips and to visit his sister in baldwin. my family had all left except for an aunt and uncle in howard beach. my sister NanceGreggs was the first to leave. she moved to toronto in '74.

Ohrbachs and A&S are long out of business. I don't know much about the Austin St. stores. I'm not over there much.

when we moved to phoenix. i miss the food in new york. the diners were amazing -- open 24/7 and you could get anything from breakfast to seafood. my favorite was the georgia diner on queens blvd.
