Fines result of 1st hearing

Casey Seiler

Albany

As inaugural events go, it was a bit underwhelming.

The state Joint Commission on Public Ethics on Wednesday held its first-ever hearings on specific alleged violations of state lobbying law — specifically, the requirement that clients who spend a certain amount on lobbying in a given year must file semiannual reports with the watchdog body.

It was the first time in the panel's 20-month history that an enforcement action had proceeded as far as the hearing stage.
