Zephyr Teachout said today that her longshot challenge of Gov. Andrew Cuomo has already changed the political conversation in New York State and pushed the incumbent leftward.
Ms. Teachout, while still insisting she was in the race to win, told reporters at a campaign stop in Brooklyn that Mr. Cuomowho governed as a liberal on social issues but has been considerably more conservative on fiscal onesis now speaking to progressive concerns as a result of her campaign, noting that he recently spoke about wealth disparities and told anti-fracking protestors this morning he would visit places in Pennsylvania where the controversial natural gas drilling technique is being used.

(13,305 posts)All she did was get him to pay lip service to liberal issues. He won't actually govern in any way like that. I applaud her efforts and wish she would have been given a chance by the party instead of being strong armed and dismissed every step of the way.
This whole "challenge from the left" thing is always little more than a pipe dream tactic. All it does is forces the conservative candidate to lie and pretend to be liberal in order to get those voters. It doesn't actually make them govern in that way.

(2,921 posts)"THE INCUMBENT Mr. Cuomos political team has not enjoyed the past few weeks. They are frustrated that Mr. Cuomo faces a spirited primary challenge, because he is an incumbent who is generally popular with voters, and they are even more frustrated with the amount of media attention that Ms. Teachout has received."
but a couple of paragraphs below...
"ODDS Ms. Teachout is just about the only person who has predicted that Ms. Teachout will win on Tuesday. While there has been no public polling of her matchup with Mr. Cuomo, her most obvious challenge is name recognition: A statewide poll conducted from Aug. 14 to 17 by Quinnipiac University found that 85 percent of Democratic voters had not heard enough about her to form an opinion."

There was barely any coverage of her up here.
