Local news is big news for these Maine newspapers that found a lifeline - NBC News

Newsrooms at the Lewiston Sun Journal and 20 other daily and weekly newspapers in Maine got a boost when they were sold to the not-for-profit National Trust for Local News. NBC News' Harry Smith spoke with the Sun Journal's publisher and Executive Editor about the paper's vital mission.

These papers provide excellent and vital local news and issues coverage and have great photographers and columnists, too. I know what they do to support good government at all levels.

I am old, so I subscribe to two print (actual print!) newspapers. One, the Kennebec Journal, is on my doorstep 6 days a week. One, from my old hometown in NewYork, the Niagara Gazette, comes in two batches a week by US mail. In these times, I don’t take this for granted.

Yeah, I subscribe to three online news sites, too. Journalism is worth supporting.

She got an IBM-PC with 2 5-1/4 floppies (one for the - O/S), the other data. She was one of the 1st journalists to get a remote connection with the BDN. She wrote awesome stories with her own by-line.

I read the Courier on-line to stay connected with "home"...I think they have the best approach in using both internet and paper to get the news/important local stories reported and covered.
