Kroeger ends campaign for the US Rep 1st district seat

The field narrowed;

The Democratic field vying for Iowa's First Congressional District seat narrowed today.

Gary Kroeger, of Waterloo, announced he is ending his campaign for the seat held by U.S. Rod Blum, a Republican from Dubuque.

The announcement leaves Monica Vernon, a former Cedar Rapids City Council member, and Pat Murphy, a former state lawmaker from Dubuque, to square off in the Democratic primary. Murphy bested Vernon for the party's nomination in 2014 but lost to Blum in the general election.

Personally I'd like to see Murphy with the nomination but either him or Vernon would be a thousand times better than Blum.

I was swept off my political feet by her.
Either way a spirited primary can generate some good publicity for our candidates that they can't buy.

I think Blum is in trouble. Here's hoping you can send him packing. He is one of the craziest of the crazy.

currently held by the abominable Walt Rogers. I'm sorry not to see him run for congress, but would be very happy to have him in the Iowa House.

Should Monica Vernon be the Democratic candidate, I will vote for her, but folks should not forget that it hasn't been that long since she was a Republican legislator.
