The countys Democratic Committeeman, John Ramos, bucked his local Democratic Executive Committee by supporting Tant after the DEC passed a resolution this month endorsing Clendenin. At least one DEC member, Boca-Delray Democratic Club President Linda Rosenthal, said Saturday shell ask party activists to boot Ramos.

Ramos and county Committeewoman Bunny Steinman controlled 41 votes apiece in the state chairmans race. Steinman, who voted for Clendenin, said Ramos had a moral obligation to vote as the DEC wanted.

But Ramos said the DEC elected him to use his judgment, and he believed Tant was the superior candidate. If he simply followed the DEC resolution, then Ill be more of a puppet than actually a leader. Im taking the role as a leader rather than being a puppet.

After enduring more than two weeks of pressure leading up to the chairmans vote, the 41 votes that Ramos intended to cast for Tant didnt even count. Florida Democratic Party officials said Ramos ballot was disallowed because he signed it in the wrong place.
