The San Francisco public defender was handcuffed and arrested Tuesday afternoon at the Hall of Justice after she objected to city police officers questioning her client outside a courtroom, an incident that the public defenders office said Wednesday.
The arrest of attorney Jami Tillotson as she denied police officers attempts to take photos of her African American client without explanation or probable cause raises issues about the police departments tactics when it comes to intimidation and racial profiling, said Public Defender Jeff Adachi.
But police said the five officers, led by a plainclothes sergeant who was accused of racially profiling a fellow officer in a 2013 traffic stop, were merely investigating a burglary case in which her client and his co-defendant were persons of interest. ...
I was arrested for what we do as public defenders every day, Tillotson said at a news conference Wednesday. I asked questions, I talked to my client and explained to him his rights. At that point, I was told I was interfering and taken into custody.
Douchebadges.
